In partnership with Transurban Queensland as the asset owner and Fulton Hogan as the asphalt supply specialist, QBC placed a gap-graded asphalt mix manufactured from recycled end-of-life truck tyres. Approximately 250 truck tyres destined for landfill were diverted into the surface course of a state-significant motorway on-ramp.

Delivery was executed inside a strict 58-hour weekend closure of the northbound on-ramp, with traffic management, supply chain and quality monitoring all programmed to the minute. The trial was monitored by Transurban for 12 months following placement to verify in-service durability.

The successful outcome opened a pathway for broader adoption of crumbed rubber asphalt across Australia and remains a defining moment in QBC's sustainability story.

The works were delivered within a constrained motorway environment, requiring careful staging, traffic coordination, and interface management with live high-speed traffic conditions. Scope included cycleway bridges, shared user pathways, retaining structures, and complex corridor integration works.

QBC’s involvement across multiple consecutive packages reflects strong client confidence and a proven ability to deliver consistent outcomes across long-term, multi-stage infrastructure programs. Delivery was achieved while maintaining continuous motorway operations and minimising disruption to the travelling public.

The works involved the integration of civil construction, gantry installation, ITS infrastructure, electrical systems, and communications within a live motorway environment. Delivery required complex staging and multi-disciplinary coordination across one of Queensland’s most heavily trafficked transport corridors.

This project highlights QBC’s capability to deliver technically complex infrastructure that combines civil construction with intelligent transport systems, reinforcing our position as a contractor capable of delivering both traditional and emerging infrastructure solutions at scale.

The original timber bridge had been removed in 2006, and illegal rail corridor crossings had since become a serious issue. The challenge was to construct a pedestrian connection in an electrically live environment with minimal disruption to 600 daily station passengers.

QBC's design and construct solution used non-conductive Fibre Reinforced Polymer (FRP) profiles and grating throughout - eliminating electrical risk. The 9m tall, 16m span structure weighs just 6 tonnes compared to 21 tonnes for equivalent steel, and was constructed offsite before being craned into position to minimise station disruption. Since commissioning, illegal crossings at Banyo Station have been eliminated.

Our extensive portfolio includes the monumental SQARRP Alliance program, the Lowmead and Miriam Vale package, and 11 bridges for the Scenic Rim Regional Council delivered across multiple simultaneous packages comprising two, four, and five structures.
