      Our Journey

      Our History

From three people in 1997 to a trusted civil delivery partner, three decades of relationships, infrastructure and resilience.

Founded in 1997 by Kevin Lynagh and Darren Kesby, QBC was built on a simple philosophy — deliver high-quality civil infrastructure while building strong, lasting relationships.

From a team of three, QBC has grown into a respected civil contractor with three decades of experience delivering bridges, roadworks, earthworks, pavements and complex civil structures across the state.

Known for its relationship-driven approach, QBC has become a trusted delivery partner to government, local councils and private sector clients, consistently delivering projects safely, collaboratively and to a high standard.

Today, QBC combines experienced leadership, skilled personnel and a loyal subcontractor network to deliver complex infrastructure with the same integrity, quality and commitment that has defined the business since day one.

      The People Behind The Projects

      Our Team

At QBC, our greatest strength is our people, a close-knit experienced team built on three decades of shared commitment to delivering outstanding civil infrastructure.

At QBC, our greatest strength is our people. Built over three decades, our team reflects a deliberate commitment to long-term relationships both within our business and across the industry. We are proud to have a high percentage of long-standing employees whose experience, loyalty and deep understanding of our operations underpin everything we deliver.

As a medium-sized contractor, QBC offers something genuinely unique - a breadth and depth of experience that rivals much larger organisations, combined with the agility, accountability and personal ownership that only a close-knit team can provide. Our people are high performers who embrace challenges and consistently rise to meet them, delivering outcomes that exceed expectations.

Our highly skilled and professional workforce brings together capability across bridges, roadworks, civil structures and complex infrastructure. More importantly, they bring a mindset grounded in collaboration, accountability and delivering on our commitments. This is why QBC continues to be recognised by clients, suppliers and subcontractors as a fair, transparent and dependable contractor.

Working as one team, our people are outcome-focused and driven to achieve best-for-project results. We foster a culture where practical thinking, proactive communication and shared ownership of outcomes are standard - not exceptions.

QBC's experience across both relational and traditional contracting models further strengthens our team's capability. Whether operating within Alliances, ECI or ETI frameworks or construct-only environments, our people understand how to adapt, collaborate and lead. This flexibility allows us to work closely with clients to develop tailored, best-for-project solutions regardless of the delivery model. It is this combination of experience, stability and collaborative approach that continues to define QBC and positions our team as a trusted partner in the delivery of critical infrastructure.

      Environmental

Civil works in sensitive places demand uncompromising environmental discipline.

      Sensitive By Nature

      Civil Construction In Living Places

Civil construction often takes place in environmentally sensitive locations, over waterways, through native bushland, and adjacent to threatened ecological communities. QBC's responsibility is to plan, control and document every project so the receiving environment is protected throughout delivery.

      ISO 14001 Certified Systems

      Erosion & Sediment Control

Working over and adjacent to creeks, rivers and stormwater systems demands robust sediment and erosion controls. QBC routinely:

      • Develops site-specific Erosion & Sediment Control Plans (ESCPs)
      • Installs and maintains progressive sediment fencing, basins and stabilisation measures
      • Monitors discharge water quality before, during and after rain events

      Flora, Fauna & Heritage

QBC works closely with environmental advisors, ecologists and Cultural Heritage representatives to identify and protect sensitive vegetation, fauna habitat, and cultural heritage values. Pre-clearing surveys, exclusion zoning and supervised clearing are standard practice on every project.

      Waste, Recycling & Materials

We actively pursue waste reduction, segregation and recycling on site - including recycled aggregates, repurposed concrete, and innovative paving products such as crumbed rubber asphalt incorporating end-of-life truck tyres. Every load saved from landfill is a small win for the environment.

      Lasting Value

      Sustainability Is Durability

For QBC, sustainability is about lasting value. The most sustainable infrastructure is infrastructure that performs longer, requires less maintenance, and is delivered using methods and materials that reduce overall lifecycle impact.

      Innovation in Sustainable Materials
      01

      Innovation In Materials

QBC actively partners with clients and suppliers to trial sustainable materials in real-world conditions.

A defining example: in partnership with Transurban Queensland and Fulton Hogan, QBC delivered Queensland's first crumbed rubber asphalt trial on the Mount Gravatt-Capalaba Road on-ramp of the Gateway Motorway diverting hundreds of end-of-life truck tyres from landfill while producing more durable pavement.

      Resource Efficiency

QBC pursues practical, measurable improvements across every project:

      • Recycled aggregates and crushed concrete in non-structural applications
      • Optimised plant scheduling to reduce idle hours and fuel burn
      • Efficient haul routing and material balancing to minimise truck movements
      • Lightweight, low-maintenance composite materials where appropriate (e.g. FRP pedestrian bridges)

      Climate-Resilient Infrastructure
      03

      Building For Climate Resilience

As extreme weather events increase in frequency and intensity, infrastructure must withstand greater stress. QBC delivers flood and slope recovery works, re-engineering vulnerable sites using soil nails, ground anchors, shotcrete and contiguous piled walls to restore access today and strengthen critical assets for the future.

      Lifecycle Thinking

The most sustainable infrastructure is infrastructure that is built to perform, minimise maintenance, and deliver a long-term service life. QBC's commitment to quality construction, proven methodologies, and durable materials reflects a practical approach to sustainability, delivering measurable whole-of-life benefits that endure well into the future.

Built For The People We Serve

      Community

Engaging early, communicating openly, and minimising disruption - every project, every neighbourhood.

      Where Construction Meets Neighbourhood

Every Project Sits Inside A Community

Residents, schools, businesses and road users all feel the impact of construction and QBC takes its responsibility to those communities seriously. Our approach combines early engagement, clear communication and genuine respect for the people most affected by our work.

      Community Engagement
      01

      Community Engagement

Working closely with our clients, QBC supports project communications including:

      • Letter drops and community notifications ahead of disruptive works
      • Site signage, hoardings and clear wayfinding for affected residents and businesses
      • Out-of-hours and weekend working windows that minimise impact on adjoining communities
      • Direct on-site response to community queries and concerns

      Minimising Disruption

Whether it is a 58-hour weekend motorway closure or a multi-month bridge replacement, QBC's planning process is built around minimising disruption to the public. Across all projects, we place a strong emphasis on stakeholder management, clear communication, and maintaining community confidence throughout construction activities.

      Local Industry
      03

      Local Industry & Workforce

QBC is committed to supporting local businesses, workers, and suppliers in the communities where we operate. Wherever possible, we engage local subcontractors, plant hire providers, and tradespeople to help keep investment and opportunity within the regions in which we work.

      Giving Back

Beyond direct project delivery, QBC supports a range of community initiatives, charities, schools, and industry organisations that strengthen the regions in which we operate.

Through close engagement with local communities, we identify where meaningful support can make a genuine difference. This has included contributing practical, on-the-ground assistance to community groups providing resources that deliver immediate benefit while also building longer-term capability and resilience. In doing so, we aim to leave a lasting, positive legacy in the areas where we work.

We also continue to support local initiatives such as Boynewood State School's P&C Annual Cricket Day, contributing to grassroots sport and the families who underpin it, with moments like the students' thank-you certificate reflecting the value of those connections.

      Culture

A workplace built on collaboration, integrity, and a genuine pride in what we deliver.

Three Decades, One Way Of Working

      The QBC Way

Culture at QBC is the result of three decades of deliberate choices about how we work, who we work with, and what we expect of ourselves. It is what makes our long-serving team stay and what attracts new people who share our values.

      Directors Active Involvement

QBC has deliberately remained a lean, expert-led business where experienced Directors continue to play an active role within day-to-day operations. Across major projects, our Directors work closely with the Operations Manager and Project Managers, providing practical leadership, technical guidance, and decades of hands-on industry experience. This direct involvement supports timely decision-making, responsive problem solving, and a collaborative project environment where quality outcomes and strong performance are consistently reinforced.

      Loyalty That Goes Both Ways

Many of QBC's people have been with us for over a decade, some for over twenty years. That loyalty isn't accidental. It reflects a culture that backs its people through career milestones, professional development, and the inevitable ups and downs of long careers in civil construction.

      Pride In The Work

From the most junior site labourer to the most senior Project Director, the QBC team takes pride in the quality of what gets built. Our reputation for delivering complex civil infrastructure with certainty is the result of thousands of small, careful decisions made by people who care about the outcome.

      Direct, Respectful Communication

QBC is a place where people speak directly, raise concerns early, and treat each other with respect - clients, subcontractors, suppliers and colleagues alike. That straightforward culture is one of the reasons we are repeatedly engaged by the same clients, project after project.

That's why QBC partners with Drake Workwise to provide every employee - and their immediate family members - with free, confidential, 24-hour access to professional counselling. The service is independent of QBC, fully confidential, and available whenever it's needed.
