Project Value: $2.7M
Project Duration: November 2007 - February 2008
Client: Department of Transport and Main Roads
Project Overview
The project involved the construction of a composite steel and concrete bridge linking Redcliffe State High School’s east and west campuses either side of Oxley Avenue. A high profile project following identification of the zone being considered a heightened safety risk to the students of Redcliffe SHS, the project was to be delivered in an expedient manner.
This project was a high profile and exposure project and was commissioned following the death of a student. As such, the construction timeframe was very tight and community interest was significant.
Project Characteristics
- Major pedestrian management for the duration of the works; including the installation of temporary fencing to exclude student movements.
- Close collaboration with Redcliffe State High School
- 3 metre suspended concrete slab over Oxley Road using sacrificial Bondek Formwork System
- The structure consisted of a 3m enclosed steel truss with a cast insitu concrete walkway with both spiral ramps and stair access in existing school grounds.
- Difficulty of design and construction with limited room on school property and the need to preserve existing trees in the school grounds.
- Due to construction timeframe, full set of construction drawings were not available on commencement therefore a collaborative contract model was employed and all us to be involved & provide feedback into contractual issues.
Key Project Outcomes
This project presented a number of potential challenges in regards to pedestrian and vehicle management as well as significant time constraints due to school hours. The outcome of this project was very successful due to our consultative approach; it enabled us to identify these hurdles from the project infancy and allowed all stakeholders to be consulted for “best for project” outcomes to be achieved.
