Project Overview
The project involved the construction of a composite steel and concrete bridge linking Mabel Park Primary and State High School campuses over Paradise Road, Slacks Creek. Mabel Park was a high profile project following identification of the heightened safety risk to the students by the Queensland Government. The project was to be delivered in an expedient manner with significant community interest and involvement.
Project Characteristics
- Major pedestrian management for the duration of the works; including the installation of temporary fencing to exclude student movements.
- Close collaboration with Mabel State Schools
- The structure consisted of a 3m enclosed steel truss with a Loc Composite walkway across Paradise Road and block retaining wall ramps with cast insitu slabs and kerbs..
- Difficulty of design and construction with extremely limited access and a very tight construction site.
- Working to a tight construction timeframes and difficulties with project continuity due to the Clients major subcontractor interactions.
Key Project Outcomes
- This project presented a number of potential challenges in regards to pedestrian and vehicle management as well as significant time constraints due to school hours and holidays.
- Our relationship style of contracting enabled us to identify significant design and construction concerns early and allowed all stakeholders to be consulted for “best for project” outcomes to be achieved. The outcome to this project was very successful.
