Project Value: $5.4M
Project Duration: July 2008 - March 2009
Client: Department of Transport & Main Roads
Project Overview
The Project involves the construction of a Cycle and Pedestrian overpass over the western Freeway linking Mt Coot-tha Road to the Western Freeway Cycleway. The overpass consisted of a fifteen span composite bridge with a concrete substructure and steel superstructure with a cast insitu deck and kerbs. It also included approaches which involved block retaining walls, embankment, drainage, fencing and concrete paths.
Project Characteristics
- Traffic management involving Multi Staging of works including Night works on the Western Freeway intersection with a traffic count in excess of 75,000 vehicle per day
- The two longer spans over the Western Freeway required dual lifts. To maintain traffic flow during these operations, temporary crossovers were constructed and traffic in contra-flow was required.
- Cohesive interaction and communication with project Partners to deliver a successful project within extremely tight timeframes.
- Innovation and development of working at heights barrier system to enable works at heights to progress whilst ensuring the safety of the passing vehicles and workers below.
- 3 metre suspended concrete slab over the Western Freeway using sacrificial Bondek Formwork System
Key Project Outcomes
- This project evolved with significant Early Contractor Involvement and ensured that consultation with the client stretching from the design stages through to the completion of construction was delivered using a “best for Project” approach.
