Project Value: $5.6M
Project Duration: 52 weeks
Client: Brisbane City Council
Project Overview
The project involved the construction of a shared bikeway / walkway along The Esplanade, St Lucia. It involved a series of different sections of on ground path and suspended bikeway. This project now connects two existing sections of bikeway as part of Brisbane City Council’s bikeway network. The project runs along the edge of the Brisbane River and at times suspends over the edge of the bank. The project is in a highly political area and as such has significant community interest and involvement.
Project Characteristics
- Major pedestrian and cycle management for the duration of the works; including extensive exclusion fences to close off sections of the work to access.
- Close collaboration with Brisbane City Council, and through their communications team, local care groups and residents
- The structure sits along the edge of the banks of the Brisbane River, and as such has significant environmental considerations and stringent guidelines requiring continual monitoring and changing environmental controls.
- Difficulty of narrow working corridor whilst allowing continual access along The Esplanade for cyclists and vehicles.
- Major service relocations.
- Bored pile operations over the edge of the river bank.
Official Opening
The project is now complete and was officially opened by Local Brisbane City Councillor Julian Simmonds on 8th October 2011. Local residents expressed their gratitude (for the efforts made to lessen the impact of construction activities during construction by our team) and appreciation for a great project.
The Management of QB&C are extremely proud of the commitment and efforts of all staff involved in delivering another high quality project to our client.
