Project Value: $7.95M
Project Duration: 52 weeks
Client: Department of Transport and Main Roads
Project Overview
The project involves the construction of a 1.4 km bikeway between Lewisham Street and Birdwood Road, Greenslopes. Key components of the bikeway will be the construction of a 2 span (1 x 35 metre, 1 x 25 metre) structural steel bridge with a cast in-situ concrete deck. The bikeway corridor runs parallel with south-bound lanes of the Pacific Motorway and requires extensive drainage and earthworks and comprises bored and driven concrete piles, retaining wall structures, concrete stabilisation of batters with rock anchoring (soil nailing) and shotcreting and placement of an extruded concrete barrier along the alignment boundary to the Pacific Highway.
Project Characteristics
- Proximity of bikeway corridor in relation to environmentally sensitive waterway (Ekibin Creek)
- Narrow corridor width and traffic access to and from the Pacific Highway and neighbouring Translink infrastructure
- Close collaboration between QB&C staff and Main Roads personnel with local environmental and community groups
- Environmental and construction delivery challenges.
Key Project Outcomes
- Deliver a quality product to our client and Brisbane bikeway users.
- Identify and manage construction risks in accordance with legislation, standards and industry good practice.
- Minimise the effect of construction practices on the environment and surrounding neighbours.
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders to deliver a product that enhances the natural environment and transport functions in the Brisbane area.
