Project Value: $250K
Project Duration: December 2011 (2 weeks)
Client: Department of Transport and Main Roads
Project Overview
As a result of the major flooding in Ipswich in January 2011, significant damage was incurred at Colleges Crossing which links Ipswich to the western suburbs of Brisbane. QBC were awarded, under the Transport Network Reconstruction Program (TNRP) by the Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads, the repair to the excessive scour suffered under the bridge on Mt Crosby Road.
The works consist of the replacement of scoured material in and around the bridge using rock fill.
Project Charateristics
- Supply and placement of 1000t of rock in the Brisbane River in and around the bridge structure;
- Vicinity of the works in relation to the waterway and the restrictive nature of the available access to the work site;
- At high tide the rock level was approximately 1.5m under the water level. Therefore programming of works to suit the rapidly fluctuating tides in the Brisbane River was critical to ensure works was completed on time;
- Requirement to have works completed prior to Christmas 2011.
Key Project Outcomes
- A quality product was successfully delivered to the Client under budget and ahead of the completion date;
- The project team managed construction risks onsite in accordance with legislation, standards and industry good practice;
- Once onsite the project team altered the construction procedure which ensured that there were no disruptions to the travelling public through the site during the entire construction period;
- The project team worked collaboratively with the Client to successfully deliver a quality product to ensure longevity of this key item of infrastructure.
